What is Light Therapy?
LED Light Therapy is a popular non-invasive facial treatment that uses different wavelengths of light to address various skin concerns.
How does Light Therapy work?
The different colours of LED light penetrate the skin at varying depths, targeting different layers and functions of the skin.
LED Light Therapy colours:
- Red light – penetrates deeply to stimulate collagen production, reduce wrinkles, and enhance overall skin texture.
- Blue light – targets the surface layer to kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation.
- Yellow light – improves circulation and reduces redness, giving the skin a healthy, radiant glow.
- Purple light – combines red and blue light to help reduce acne and improve skin texture.
- Orange light – combines red and yellow light to help reduce skin conditions like rosacea by decreasing redness and stimulating collagen production.
- Green light – combines blue and yellow light to help with hyperpigmentation, such as sun spots and age spots, and promotes an even skin tone.
The process of Light Therapy:
- Skin analysis in the consultation.
- Double cleanse.
- Skin preparation.
- Nano-needling or Micro-needling treatment.
- LED Light Therapy application for 25 minutes.
- Follow the aftercare guidance.
What are the main benefits?
- Improved skin texture – regular Light Therapy treatments can improve overall skin texture, making it feel smoother and look more refined.
- Enhances skin tone – green Light Therapy can help reduce hyperpigmentation and even out skin tone, leading to a more uniform complexion.
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles – yellow Light Therapy stimulates collagen and elastin production, which helps to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Calms redness and irritation – red Light Therapy can calm irritated or sensitive skin, reducing redness and promoting a more even skin tone.
- Boosts skin radiance – yellow Light Therapy improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, which helps to revitalise the skin and give it a natural glow.
- Reduces active acne – blue Light Therapy targets acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation, which can help clear up breakouts and prevent future ones.
- Safe for all skin types with no downtime or pain – LED Light Therapy is non-invasive, painless, and suitable for all skin types. It doesn’t require downtime, making it a convenient option for busy schedules.
Is Light Therapy suitable for you?
Whilst Light Therapy is a gentle and versatile skincare treatment, there are certain conditions and situations where it might not be suitable.
Light Therapy is not suitable for people who:
- Have severe skin conditions.
- Have Photosensitivity disorders.
- Have open wounds or skin lesions.
- Have recently had cosmetic procedures – if you’ve recently had other cosmetic procedures such as chemical peels, laser treatments, or injectables like botox or fillers, your skin needs time to heal before undergoing LED Light Therapy. Allow 2 weeks minimum.
- Take certain medications – some medications can increase photosensitivity, making your skin more susceptible to adverse effects from light exposure. If you’re on medications that make your skin sensitive to light, contact us before booking.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Have severe eye conditions.
- Have epilepsy.
- Have severe allergies or skin sensitivities.
- Have recent sunburn or sun exposure.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it look like straight after?
Right after an LED Light Therapy facial, your skin is likely to look more radiant and refreshed. You might notice a slight glow due to improved circulation and enhanced hydration from the treatment. Some people might experience a mild, temporary redness immediately following the session, but this usually subsides within a few hours.
Will there be any pain or discomfort?
LED Light Therapy is non-invasive and pain-free, most people find the treatment relaxing and soothing. The light device used does not create heat or any physical sensation that could lead to discomfort.
Can I wear makeup straight away?
It’s best to let your skin breathe but if you need to wear makeup, mineral foundation concealer can be used on your skin. I would highly recommend Tropic’s products for this and for your continued maintenance. Your skin healing process should not prevent you from engaging with any of your normal work or leisure activities.
You can shop the Tropic’s range ‘here‘.
Is there anything I need to avoid afterwards?
See our ‘facial aftercare guidance’ for advice on what to avoid after your treatment.
When will I start seeing results?
An immediate healthy glow and improved skin hydration can be seen right away. For more significant results, such as a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and acne, you’ll likely need multiple sessions. The effects of LED Light Therapy are cumulative, meaning that with regular sessions, your skin will continue to improve over time.
