What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent makeup, also known as micro-pigmentation, is a procedure where pigment is implanted into the skin to enhance or replicate the natural features of the face. This technique is used to create the appearance of makeup that doesn’t wash off, offering a long-lasting solution for those seeking to save time and maintain a polished look.
Why Should I get Permanent Makeup?
People might choose to get permanent makeup for various reasons. It is particularly appealing to those with busy lifestyles who want to reduce the time spent on daily makeup routines. Additionally, it can be a solution for people with allergies to conventional makeup, those with unsteady hands, or those seeking to correct asymmetries or enhance faded features. We all want to look great, feel confident and be ready to face the day ahead.

Does It Hurt?
The level of discomfort experienced varies from person to person, as everyone has a different pain threshold. To minimise discomfort, topical aesthetics are applied to numb the area, specific stretching techniques are performed and state of the art machines are used. None of our clients have reported any feeling of pain during the procedures – in fact some have even fallen asleep!
Will It Look Natural?
The enhancement can be made to look natural or more dramatic, depending on your desired appearance. My eyebrow, eyeliner and lip procedures can all be made bespoke to your needs, which we will thoroughly discuss during the consultation. The aim of the treatment is to emphasise your features the way that you want them to be.
Can I Still Wear Conventional Makeup?
Wearing conventional make up is personal choice. While permanent makeup will enhance your natural features, conventional makeup can be worn if you want to ‘glam’ up for an evening or have a bolder day look. Conventional makeup can be worn over the top of the treated area once the area is healed. After an eyeliner treatment, it is recommended to buy a new mascara. If you would like to wear foundation during the healing process, I would only recommend using natural mineral makeup as this is kinder to your skin.
We always use Tropic’s products on our enhancements as they use all natural ingredients. You can shop their collection ‘here‘.
Do I Need To Remove My Eyebrow Hairs Beforehand?
No! Please do not pluck away your eyebrows!
I prefer to work with your natural eyebrow hairs as this creates a more natural looking eyebrow. Some hairs may need to be removed if they have a negative impact on the shape when trying to created symmetry, but I will do this in the appointment.
How Long Does It Take To Heal?
The healing time is usually between 10 to 14 days. For the first couple of days, the area may appear a little swollen and the pigment will be darker than the desired result. As the area goes through the healing process, it will become dry and flaky. By the end of the process, it will have faded by around 30% to give a more natural appearance. It is vital that you follow the correct ‘care advice‘ for your treatment!
How Long Does Permanent Makeup Last?
Permanent Makeup can last from 1 to 3 years (or more), depending on a number of factors:
- Age of the skin
- Individual skin colour and tone
- Skin type (oily/dry/combination)
- Lifestyles
- Attentiveness to aftercare
- Number of colourboosts
- As well as many others…
Can Anyone Get Permanent Makeup?
While many people are safe to permanent makeup, certain factors may disqualify some individuals, such as:
- People with certain medical conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, or autoimmune diseases.
- People on certain medication/prescriptions.
- People who are pregnant or nursing.
- People with skin conditions in the treatment area, such as eczema, psoriasis, or active infections.
It is important to consult with a qualified technician and possibly a healthcare provider to determine if permanent makeup is safe and appropriate for you. More information can be found on our ‘medical form‘, or you can ‘contact‘ Faye for further guidance.
Is There Any Chance Of Getting An Infection Or An Allergic Reaction?
The risk is very low as there are numerous health and safety regulations in place to keep you safe.
- The machine is covered in protective disposable tape during the appointment.
- The machine is cleaned in a sterile solution between clients (meets Uk standards).
- New, sterile needles are used for each procedure then disposed of immediately.
- Trays, pigments and PPE are all disposed of after each client.
- The pigment is hypoallergenic.
- A patch test is carried out before new treatments.
- A medical questionnaire is filled out before any treatment to reduce the possibility of a reaction.
- Aftercare advice will be given verbally and written, so any questions can be asked before you leave. Aftercare should be followed for successful results.
- Any one undergoing a lip procedure that suffers with cold sores should ask their doctor for Zovirax tablets. These should be taken 5 days before the treatment to prevent a break out.
However, while it is very rare, we cannot guarantee that you definitely will not get an infection (largely dependent on your attentiveness to the aftercare) or an allergic reaction (even after doing a patch test).
How Often Do I Need To Book A Colourboost?
We recommend booking an ‘annual colourboost’, 12 to 18 months after the initial application but we do also offer them after 19 to 24 months or after 25 to 36 months, depending on when you feel your enhancement needs a top up. It is usually time to book your colourboost when your enhancement starts to lose its vibrancy and has faded by around 50%.
What is Medical Tattooing?
Medical tattooing, also known as medical micro-pigmentation, involves implanting pigment into the skin to restore colour and appearance after medical procedures or trauma.
People might choose to get medical tattooing to regain confidence and feel more comfortable in their skin after experiencing physical changes due to surgery, injury, or medical conditions. It helps individuals who want to minimise the visibility of scars or discolouration and restore a sense of normalcy and aesthetic balance.
